Since anybody who has read this blog AT ALL, already knows this, I'm going to leave it at that, and talk about the exciting new 'writing development.'
It's called: A WRITING DESK!!
Having a laptop makes it easy to write in any place, but I really like the idea of ALSO having a place that is my own writing place.
My parents have had a desk in their house that used to belong to my Grandfather. It's interesting because these desks weren't useful for a time when everybody needed a place for their big desktop computer. I can't remember the last time I had a big desktop computer. I imagine it to be a good letter writing desk, but now it's the perfect size for my laptop.
Now, it's my novel writing desk, or anything else I'd like to write on it. We moved it here today, from Plenty, and I FINALLY got to work on organzing in the spare room. (Also known as the library, writing room, room full of boxes.) I found a spot for it next to Clint's desk. (Which, I could have used, but now he can use his computer, and I can write next to him.)
I feel inspired thinking about the history of it. My grandma probably used to write letters on it. Maybe it's silly to be excited about this, but I think maybe, this is just what I've needed. I don't have to worry about what's going on with my Query, I can focus on my current book, my next book, I can write short stories, I can write letters, I can write in my journals, I can look into freelancing. I can do that from anywhere because it's a laptop, but now I HAVE a spot.
Here is it's new spot. Already with some inspirations on it. C and I, and a picture of my friend and I on an elephant. (What is more inspiring than an elephant ride in Thailand?)
Pictures. And a frog I just got in the mail from Nehal.
Binders FULL of past writings. It's all I have of some of my short stories. Plus, the big/hard binder is my novel.
If you're ever reading a blog entry (like, say, this one), or let's get really optimistic: if you're ever reading a book I've written, you can just assume it was edited or written from this very spot. (Until I move, but the desk and books will be moving with.)
Just one more pic. I found this in a scrapbook. The first picture is of my grandparents and their grandkids (me included -I'm the little one between my grandparents, watching Grandma). The bottom one is where the desk came from. That's the house my mom grew up in.
And as always:
Most of my ideas are coming from http://erinisawriter.blogspot.ca/2014/03/march-24th-looking-forward.html It's leads to another blog where I found the ideas. My April onward details start with that post.

Grandma did indeed write a lot of letters from that desk. She wrote faithfully every week to her Mom and sister for years. The desk was also used originally by your Great grandpa Burton at the farm near Plenty. NM
ReplyDeleteAhhh... I thought you had said that, but I couldn't quite remember how far back the desk went. Lots of generations! :)
