Dream Job

March 7 (Should have been), 2015

I'm a day late in posting this, but it will be a short one. The other (the post meant for today) may be longer.

Day 7

What's your dream job?

This one should be obvious. It's why I started blog. I'm following my dream.

It's writing. Writing for a living. Books. I can picture myself travelling and writing, but writing any place would make me happy. Having my book published. Being a published author is my dream. The great news is that I might be able to do it some day.

The dream would be to become a full time author, but one dream at a time. I don't see travelling and writing a goal I'll reach right away.

I always thought the job doesn't mean a lot. People can have any job. It's the person that's important, not what they do. The job does not define the person. I stand by that. I may never make it to my dream job, but even if I do, as long as I am the best I can be, I'll be fine.

I am now able to call myself a writer. That's a bit of a dream. To be a published writer is the next step.

Random Acts of Kindness

March 6, 2015

Day 6

What was your last Random Act of Kindness?

I don't think the act is random if you share it. I don't really want to focus on my acts of kindness, but believe me, I know I should do more.

I want to talk about a different kindness from a whole town.

I've spoken about about my home town before. Here

I never loved small town life. I knew I'd end up moving to a city. I never felt like I could be myself in my hometown. The only place I felt comfortable was with my family, but I never really felt at ease at school. I didn't love the popularity contest. Mostly because I was never able to win it.

My town obviously left me with some sort of fondness for it because I use a small town for half of my novel's setting. It's not about my specific town (it's larger), but I use a lot of what I learned from my town.

I give my hometown a hard time, but I always know that the people from my town will step up when somebody is in trouble. Random Acts of Kindness.

It's not always random I guess, but when somebody needs help, they will help.

My aunt and uncle had a house fire last week. They lost everything. The house and their things. Nobody was hurt.

I'm sure it didn't take long for the news to spread about the fire, in fact, I'm guessing the town knew about it before the fire was out.

This week, the town has been fundraising. They've been donating things. They've been helping in any way they can.

That makes me incredibly proud to have grown up there. The people who live there are good. Random acts of kindness happen ALL THE TIME.

I guess it's like one big family, and I'm sad that I don't always see that. My aunt and uncle will be okay. They will get through this, and have more memories in a new home.

So whether acts of kindness are random, or are private, they're always good. The town is full of people willing to step up and help a family in need.

Warms my heart.

(The town from my parent's house.)

I'm trying to work on a photo project for them. I have to find all the photos first. I think I'd be sad to lose my photos. (Although, now FB has many of them.)

I'm starting with this one:
My Grandma and Grandpa

#tbt Favourite Movies

March 5, 2015
Day 5
Favourite movies you never get sick of watching.

I kind of did this before: Rainy Day Movies. I may have done another before that as well, but because it's a prompt and I don't have another topic ready for today, I will share my favourites.

Here are a few. Some are different than what I usually share. This is basically a throwback post, as most of my favourite movies are from the 90s and early 2000s.

Little Black Book
Brittany Murphy at her best. It's a great movie, that appears as though it is romance, but it's not really. SPOILER: She ends up alone, and it's the best move she could have made. You don't often see that.

Dirty Dancing
Nobody puts baby in a corner. Enough said. I'll always love this movie.

Life as a House
I'm a sucker for sad movies.

Finding Neverland
I found this movie to be magical. It made me want to write, and it made me want to enjoy every moment I have.

Reality Bites
I could watch this movie over and over.

Clueless
A young Paul Rudd. What more could I ask for? Also, another Brittany Murphy movie.

Beaches
I LOVE Bette Midler. Always have.

Let's not forget all of my favourite Disney Movies.

Beauty and the Beast

Frozen

Up

Monsters Inc

(and basically most of them).

I have a lot of 'go to' movies. It all depends on my mood.

It seems as though this post wasn't a big 'writing' post. I could have written more about why I love these movies, but I won't. I'm writing for 31 straight days, maybe I needed a good easy prompt day. (I'm sure this won't be the easiest).

Now all I want to do is go home and watch movies.

Childhood Memories

March 4, 2015

Best Childhood memory. Day 4

My childhood memories are vague at the moment, but one thing I always that always comes to my mind when I think of my childhood is my grandparents.

We were lucky enough to live close to my Grandma and Poppy (that's what we called my Grandpa). Many of my memories include fun with them. We always played games at their house. I can remember sleepovers as well.

One specific memory I have of these two was when I was spending some time with my grandma. We were playing 20 Questions. My Grandpa (Poppy) and Dad came in while I was trying to guess an answer. I don't remember how old I was, maybe 8. My grandma was trying to give me hints for teeth, and for some reason, I wasn't getting the answer.

Poppy decided to give me a hint. He looked over at me and pulled out his false teeth. I'm not sure if I knew what false teeth were at that point, so when he pulled them out of his mouth, I screamed. They all laughed.

My memories of my other Grandma are different. She lived four hours away, so we didn't see her as much as we saw my Grandma and Poppy.

I remember the car rides to Moose Jaw. I remember the anticipation. From a young age, I loved my Grandma M more than anything. (I wasn't the only one). This never changed as I grew older. The four hour car rides were horrible for all involved. My sister and I couldn't wait to get out and get to Grandma, and my parents spent the four hours listening to us - not sleeping. We never fell asleep during car rides. I remember just watching for all the glowing lights of Moose Jaw so I'd know we were almost there.

The visit was never long enough, but we always got to snuggle with Grandma, catch up with her and my Aunts and cousins, and watch the movies she had taped. (Anne of Green Gables was one of those). Every time we left, Grandma would make sure I 'forgot' something so we'd have a reason to visit again. (She was reason enough, but the game was fun).

Just writing this post makes me miss the three of them. I have a lot of great childhood memories. Most of them are good. I spent the first two years of my life not speaking and crying. My sister was my voice. Somehow, we all got through that, and had wonderful times.

The picture below is a great example of my wonderful personality before two. I remember when I was older asking my sister why I was dirty and crying in this photo. She told me she had taken me across the street and left me there. I believed her. She doesn't remember telling me this, but it wasn't when the picture was taken. My family went on a long drive to camp with my dad's side. It was hot, and I didn't do well in heat. I was an unpleasant traveller, but they let me come back with them. If I have a child, I'm sure it will be payback for the first two years of my life.
Those are my memories.

Happy Wednesday!

Things that make me happy

March 3, 2015 (day 3)

What makes you happy?

  • Clint. Not just him though. Us. The two of us and the relationship we have makes me happy. I honestly feel grateful for us every day.
  • My family.  I'm so lucky to have the parents that I do, and the sister that I do. I was lucky to have the grandparents I had, and my aunts, uncles and cousins are all pretty great as well. I have a fantastic family, and appreciate every day that I have with them. (Also, Clint's family - my practically in-laws - are also really great).
  • My friends. Old friends, new friends... anybody I can have a laugh with and confide in (and have them confide in me) makes me happy. Friends keep me sane.
  • Being happy. Take from this what you will, but being happy makes me happy. If I can look back on a day, and know I was happy, that's something to celebrate. Being happy is like getting into a habit. The more you do it, the easier it is.
  • Gratitude. To me, this is happiness. I'm grateful for my life. Therefore, I've got a happy life.
  • The small things. You know... wine, coffee, hugs, kisses...
  • The big things. Buying a house. Future plans. Writing a book.
  • Writing: Writing in any way makes me happy. Blogging, novel writing, creative writing. They all work and all bring a smile to my face. If I'm having a bad day, writing helps. It doesn't need to be about my bad day, just writing.
There's more, but this pretty much covers it. The little things, the big things. Being happy isn't something I'm striving for, it's something I am.

Happy Tuesday!

Favourite Quotes

March 2, 2015
Day 2

Favourite quotes.

This could take a while. I have a lot of favourite quotes. I have shared many already in this blog. Usually, I put quotes that mean something to me on pictures that I've taken, so I'm going to share those.

To start, I end every blog post with this one:

"Write it on your heart that every day is the best day in the year."
Ralph Waldo Emerson

This one is important to me because it reminds me how important gratitude is. I don't want to keep looking forward, and hoping that life gets better. I want to look at today, and love it.

Writing quotes help keep me sane. These two are very true to my writing life.
#selflove I don't know where this quote is from, but I think the quote is dead on.

Once again, I don't know where the credit goes for the quote. But I love wine.

Very true words.

My friends mean everything to me.

Jack Kerouac
Follows the gratitude theme.

This is advice (quote) from a friend.

I also LOVE Ralph Waldo Emerson quotes:
"Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail."

There are probably so many more, and I wish I could think of my own quotes (because I love quoting myself), but these are some of my favourites.

Day One: Me

March 1, 2015

  1. Self Portrait and 5 random facts about yourself.
Day one is a pretty easy prompt, and I'm having a bit of a day, so I'm glad it's easy.

I assume self portrait is similar to a selfie. So, I took some pictures today while waiting for Clint. This is the only one I'm sharing. It hasn't been a selfie week. I'm feeling a bit critical, and I don't like that.

Five things about me:
  1. I get scared when I don't hear from people who are driving home in a reasonable amount of time. I worry about car accidents. I always try to say 'I love you' to family, before they leave. I fear losing loved ones.
  2. I love singing and dancing, but I'm terrible at both. I hate when people try to tell me how to dance. It's too late for me, just let me have a good time. My cat used to meow at me when I sang, and I don't think it was an encouraging meow.
  3. I have good self esteem. Some days I'm hard on myself, but for the most part, I have no problems with the way I look, and have no problem walking around with no makeup. I wish everybody could have a positive image of themselves. It helps.
  4. I'm a fan of soap operas. I love the 'real life' mixed with absolute absurdity. I follow soap stars on Instagram and Twitter.
  5. I love road trips, but I usually don't like being the one who drives. I don't feel comfortable driving. Probably because I don't do it enough. If I'm going anywhere alone, I'm most likely going to be singing.
That's it for today. Happy Sunday to all.

Update: I've changed number four. It was about my hatred for bananas, but I think I've said that quite a few times in lists about me.
