Dear person of influence

April 4, 2015

Letter Prompts Day Four

A letter to the person who has influenced you the most.

Dear People of influence,

Dear all, I am writing this letter to more than one person because I've been lucky enough to be inspired by so many.

My mother is one of my biggest influences. She's brilliant, caring, and one hundred percent ready to help her children. She makes me want to be great and the best I can be. Also, she doesn't seem to age. I hope she's passed that on.

My father is also one of my biggest influences. He says what he thinks, and doesn't let anything stop him. He follows his dreams, even if they change. He's a kid at heart, and he passed that on to me.

My greatest influences and me.

My sister is one of my best friends. She's also one of the smartest people I know. She's caring, and supportive. I've always looked up to her. That will never change.

My grandparents, who are unfortunately no longer around. My Grandma McCrea raised a family of children by herself, with nothing but love and dignity. My Grandma Burton had a university degree, but when she met my grandfather, she chose farm life with her soul mate. She made family her number one priority. My Grandpa Burton (Poppy) was a strong man who loved with all his heart, and laughed with everything he had.

My aunts and uncles are always inspirations and influences. They're always there for one another, and always showing me how great they are.

I've had one aunt who passed away. She was a huge influence in my life. I still tear up when I think of the loss. She was a strong and caring lady who always stood up for what she believed in. Always.
My aunt and I many years ago. She always made me feel special.

My significant other (we all know his name) has influenced me to be the best I can be. He knows I can do anything, and spends a great amount of time reminding me I can.

My friends are always there for support. Seeing them do great things, makes me want to be great as well. They are all my greatest influence.

One friend in particular has been the most influence in my writing career especially. She's always known I could write, and she continued to remind me even when I forgot to do it. She's my twin, and I've loved being involved in her life, even though we are too far from one another.

Thanks to my greatest influences.

Love,

The one who learns from you.

A letter to my best friends

April 3, 2015

Letter Prompts Day Three

A letter to your best friend(s).

Dear Best Friends,

I've had a few best friends in my life. They didn't all stick. (Although I am grateful for all of them.)

I've had the two of you for more than 15 years. By now, we are stuck with each other, and I could not be happier with that thought.

We've seen each other at our worst, and at our best (although, we'll continue to get better), and we still love each other.

Even though we live in the same city, and don't quite see each other as much as we want to, we still know the other will be there if we need. If only for a laugh.

I'm lucky enough to have two best friends in the same city. Two completely different woman, but both similar in your kindness and love. You both inspire me in completely different ways, and I look up to both of you.

You are both intelligent, beautiful, caring, and unique. (Both with a great amount of sarcasm).

I can trust both of you for your honest opinions, and even though it isn't always what I want to hear, I love that you know me well enough to tell me how you feel.

Not only do I love spending time with you both, but I love spending time with your families. We are family, and that won't change.

I can imagine us when we are older, and I don't think anything will change. We'll still be watching the latest teen shows, or drinking wine on a patio. Life is going to be good.

I'll leave you with one thought, that isn't my own. Every time I watch Sex and the City, I think of you both and how lucky I am to have you. Especially in the second last episode.

"Today, I had a thought: what if I had never met you?" Carrie Bradshaw

Lucky me.

Love,
Your best friend.

Also an update on my other April goals:

Exercise
50 burpees (MY GOD), and 50 Kick down Crunches
Directly after I did the 7 minutes. It was a lot. Since this is a day off work, I soaked in the tub after.

Happiness Photo of the Day

Today's photo prompt was nature.

I haven't done a lot of leaving the house today, so when I took the garbage and recycling out, I took a quick photo. Nature in Saskatchewan at the end of winter. I can't wait for the green!

Dear Child Version of Me

April 2, 2015

Letter Prompts Day Two

A letter to yourself as a child.

Dear Child Me,

You have a great life. I don't think you appreciate it quite yet, but you're incredibly lucky to have the family you do. Although I guess six year old me probably did appreciate life.

I want to thank you for writing me letters. You started when you (we) were eight, and it's been pretty great to look back on myself as a child. I think it was a pretty great idea, and brilliant for somebody at start a young age to want to do. You were showing your future passion for writing, even then. You were also giving me a glimpse of myself as a child. I would dig one up for this post, but once again, we are packing. Moving to our final home (maybe).

Your life will be full of ups and downs, and it will seem hard at some points, but I think if you continue with the same attitude as you have at your young age, things will be easy.

I know you are shy and quiet, but at the same time, even when you were young, I'm sure you embraced your weirdness most when you (I) were a kid. You might not embrace it enough when you get into your teen years, but it'll come back to you.

I don't have a lot of specific memories of us. I do remember how much you loved. How much you loved your parents, and your sister. Your whole family. I remember trips to see grandparents. The cat you're holding in this picture? She was the first death you've had to go through. (Spoiler). Coco was a good cat, and a great first pet for you. I actually still get sad about the loss.

I think our childhood was a good one. It was before things mattered. It was before you let things bother you. You (we) had a temper - you probably weren't as easy going as I'd like to remember. You still have a temper, but we are working on the easy going nature.

You were a romantic. You believed in love, and I'm glad that's finally working out for us. I was able to mostly skip the jaded, and continue looking to be happy.

Basically, this letter is to thank my former self for helping to make me who I am. I'm quite proud of the way you turned out. I wish life had been easier at moments, but you had a great childhood. That's what is important. You had a family that loves you. That's what is important.

Thanks,
Older Me.

Also:
Exercise

I did 100 bicycle crunches. Actually, that's kind of a stretch. I was supposed to do 100 bicycle crunches. I DID 50 bicycle crunches, and 50 regular crunches. I also did 2 30 second planks, and four push ups in the morning.

I did the 7 minute challenge after I got home from work. Hated every second of it, but happy I did it.

Happiness Photo of the Day

Today's photo prompt was Food.

I chose a picture I took on Sunday. I normally would have a picture from the day of, but it's a face! Clint made heart shaped pancakes and made them into a face. Love him. Little me also would have loved them.

Dear Significant Other

April 1, 2015

Letter Prompts Day One

A letter to your significant other (or future significant other).

Dear Significant Other,

My life is better because of you.

I love you more today than I did yesterday, and I think I could say that every day for the rest of my life.

You are a part of my family, my best friend, my biggest supporter, and I try to be the same to you.

None of this will come as a surprise to you because I try to tell you every day.

You make me laugh, and you help me to laugh at myself. That's really important. You have no problem embarrassing yourself or me if it helps put me at ease.

I love that you are a bit of a hermit, like I am, but you also love to go out and have some laughs.

We are about to jump into a new adventure together, and I can't wait. Our life will always be an adventure, but it seems as though we are going to have a big year of new steps.

I'm excited for the future we are heading towards. I promise to be happy no matter what happens in our lives. We'll face it together. Marriage or no marriage, kids or no kids, we'll do it all together.

I've never had somebody I was so confident about, and I've never had the even and comfortable love we have. I've always heard in relationships that one person loves the other more. With you, I don't feel that. I just feel loved, and want to love you. It makes me happy.

I've written you a love note for every month this year (not for the blog), so this is a bonus.

Thanks for keeping a smile on my face. Even if it's for something as little as posting an embarrassing status about me on Facebook, or for telling me I look beautiful.

You're great.

Love,
Your Significant Other.

Exercise

This morning, I forced myself out of bed. I did 50 crunches, 4 push ups (I'm doing an easy start to the push ups), and 2 60 second planks.

When I got home from work, I did the seven minute work out. http://7-min.com/ I have an app for it that keeps track, so I'm not sure if this link is the exact same. I think the app is 30 seconds for each exercise.

So far so good. (One day in).
Happiness Photo of the Day

Today's photo prompt was family. I've got family family, and chosen family. I'd choose them all either way.

Challenge COMPLETED

March 31st, 2015

Day 31 of 31 Prompts (WOOT)

Self portrait and explain what you liked most about this challenge.

Day one of my March challenge also included a 'self portrait' aka, selfie. And five facts about myself. Here Day One (I wrote that quickly. It should say HERE: Day One, or something that looks better. I'm not changing it now.)

So I will post another selfie (or two) so you can see how much I've grown in a month (hopefully not at all).

As for the prompt, the thing I liked best about this challenge was the fact that it got me blogging consistently. I was really down on myself for my terrible posting in February. Writing is the one thing in life I know I can control. I just have to do it. Even if I'm not novel writing like I'd like to be, as long as I'm writing in some form, I will be happy (for now). Once I move, I will be getting serious about novel writing again.

I wasn't a fan of all the questions. The ice cream one was my least favourite, but that made me look for a new and better one. It worked out. It helped my creativity.

I can't think of my favourite questions. There were a few that actually made me work and think. I like the ones that make me want to write.

All in all, finishing this challenge has made me quite happy with myself. It made a stressful month less stressful.

Here are some Selfie Portraits of the day:

Windy outside.

19 Degrees outside. Blogging outside now that work is over! Best ever!

NEXT MONTH PLANS:
And I am going to do one more blogging challenge for April. I needed to find something different though because I've done too many generic challenges. I am not quite ready to just trust myself to write every day because of February. April will be busy, and I'm going to want to have a writing plan to keep me less stressed and more motivated.

I went to Pinterest to solve my unique prompt problems, and I found a solution. I'm not sure where the original is, but the website that I found the prompts was here:  http://heckyeahtumblrchallenges.tumblr.com/post/6395903121/30-day-open-letter-challenge-i-didnt-make-this

It's a letter writing prompt. 30 days of letters to different people or things. I think this is a bit of a lost art, and love writing letters, so I'm in.

  1. A letter to your significant other (or future significant other).
  2. A letter to yourself as a child.
  3. A letter to your best friends.
  4. A letter to the person who has influenced you the most.
  5. A letter to a celebrity you like.
  6. A letter of your choice.
  7. A letter to a celebrity you despise.
  8. A letter to a product/company.
  9. A letter to your parents.
  10. A letter to the leader of your country.
  11. A letter to the head of your faith (God, Allah, The Pope, The Universe)
  12. A letter of your choice.
  13. A letter to your body.
  14. A letter to your favourite teacher/professor.
  15. A letter to your community.
  16. A letter to your family as a whole.
  17. A letter to your friends as a whole.
  18. A letter of your choice.
  19. A letter to your boss (or somebody who bosses you around).
  20. A letter to your children (or future children, or children in general).
  21. A letter to someone who has bullied you or seriously hurt you.
  22. A letter to your worst habit.
  23. A letter to your best quality.
  24. A letter of your choice.
  25. A letter to someone who pisses you off on a regular basis.
  26. A letter to a stranger.
  27. A letter to your idol, hero, or someone you look up to.
  28. A letter to someone you barely know who has impacted you in some way.
  29. A letter to your day.
  30. A letter of your choice.

Also for this month:

In fact: I've decided that April will be my month of challenges. I'm also going to do a 30 day fitness challenge (and try to succeed), and a photo challenge. I'll try to update on here because then I'll feel guilty if I have to admit I missed exercising. I'll also add a picture a day for the photo challenge.

Happy Tuesday and end of March!

Personalities of Days

March 30, 2015

Day 30 of 31

What's your favourite flavour of ice cream?

I'm going to be honest. This is the worst question I've had so far in these prompts. It's not going to help my writing or my creative mind to talk about what kind of ice cream I like best. It's not going to help anybody reading know more about me. At all.

In case you really need to know: I'm not picky. I like chocolate. Or peanut butter chocolate chunky ice cream. Or apple caramel. You know... if it's ice cream, I'll eat it. Except for Tiger Tiger. Gross.

And now, I'm going to go and find a new prompt because I really don't like this one.

I just found a whole bunch really creative prompts, that look like a lot of fun. I'll use one of these.

http://writingprompts.tumblr.com/post/17477297690/my-28-most-tried-and-true-writing-prompts

They are prompts used for a high school class, but sometimes those are the most creative. And WAY more creative than my favourite ice cream.

Here is the one I choose for today:

Describe Each Day of the week as if it was a person.

I LOVE it! I've spent the morning planning it out in my head. Actually, I've spent the morning working, but have also been planning out which day would be my favourite person.

I know that Sunday is the actual start of the week, but I never really consider it to be. I think my first work week day is the start.

Which is why we will start with the very Mean Spirited Monday.

Monday:

Monday is an ass. They are just out for number one, and if they can torture people at the same time, they're ALL for it. Even though Monday is sarcastic and rude some of the time, you still kind of want to be friends with them. The friendship should make your life easier, if anything.

Tuesday:

This one is not only a bit of a follower, but they don't have much of a personality. The quiet one of the batch, that lets both Monday and Wednesday do the talking. Shy and timid is usually what you'll see when you look at Tuesday, but they're probably planning something big. (Or not. You'll never know.)

Wednesday:

Wednesday is the friend you want to encourage you. Definitely a 'glass is half full' type personality, and the eternal optimist. Almost an inspiring type personality. Wednesday knows that good things are going to happen, and are content just waiting for it to come.

Thursday:

Thursday is Monday's jerky best friend. He (or she) is a bully, and and will taunt you every chance he gets. He'll make sure to let you know you aren't quite there yet. However, even though you kind of want to be Monday's friend, you basically just want Thursday to go away.

Friday

Everybody loves Friday. Slightly cocky because they know everybody loves them, Friday is basically the life of the party. Need a laugh? Talk to Friday. Friday has a lot of energy, and it'll be a great night trying to keep up with Mr or Mrs. Friday.

Saturday:

Saturday is a mellow person. They're a good person to hang out with and do nothing but enjoy your time. Saturday is the best friend everybody wants. They are the perfect person to spend time with. Saturday is the whole package. Good looking, funny, smart, and so damn great. It's pretty hard to let them go.

Sunday:

As much as Saturday is your calm best friend, the person people really have an obsession with is Sunday. Sunday is the person you want more time with than you get. Saturday is the coolest of them all, and every second you spend with them is wonderful. You'll dread the moment you have to let them go. The combination of Saturday and Sunday is a friendship everybody wants to be part of. You'll be counting down the seconds until you can hang out with them. Throw Friday in the mix, and you'll spend your whole weekend laughing and loving life.

This was a fun prompt. I want more like this one.

Favourite Time of Year

March 29, 2015

Day 29 of 31 Prompts

What's your favourite time of the year and why?

I love Autumn. When Fall hits the city, I fall in love with it.

It's not just the beautiful colours, but also the crisp feel to the air. It's not yet cold, but it's not hot anymore. Don't get me wrong. I love the heat, but there's something about the feeling of the crisp Fall air on my face that I love.

It's crisp in the morning, and warms up in the afternoon. The weather is still gorgeous, but with the added benefit of the absolutely gorgeous trees. It's the perfect time to be outside no matter where you are.

The pictures below are a mix of Ontario and Saskatchewan Autumn trees.

Happy Sunday. :)

These days, I'm looking forward to Summer, but I'll also be excited for Autumn when the time comes.
